First Grade Families-

2022 is HERE! This is our first newsletter in the New Year. It was great to see everyone last week during conferences. Progress reports go out in February and Trimester 2 progress reports go out in March so we have a lot of work to do these next few weeks.  

Weekly Homework 

Homework due EVERY Tuesday. 

We start our homework in full swing this week!

Fluency: Students are to do four days of fluency homework.

Reading Challenge: Reminder that students color at least 5 snowflakes. Please be sure your child writes their first and last name on their paper.

Math IXL: No math IXL this week. Students have a worksheet to complete. We are learning about odd and even numbers. Next week, we will resume Math IXL.

Please have your child practice writing their first AND last name at home. I expect students to write their full names on their work in class. We still need a little practice with letter formation and knowing how to spell their last name (some are longer than others). 🙂

Library books are due on Tuesday. This week we will not visit the library due to testing.

Sneak Peek to our Academic Week 

Word Work: We all received our new sorts this week. We will work on them for two weeks this time around.

Reading/Phonics:   We are back into our routine. We began our reading groups this week.

Writing/Grammar: Last week, we wrote about our New Year’s Resolution and wrote about our winter break. We continue with completing our stories on winter break.

Math:  We have reviewed place values (ones, tens, and hundreds), writing our numbers 1-120, skip counting from 5-120, skip counting by 2’s to 30, and graphing.  We will be learning to do frames and arrows.

Religion: We are learning to write to God rather than just draw a picture. We will begin unit 3 in our religion book.  

Art: We made snowflakes last week and this week using white crayons and watercolors.  

Science: We will be making snowflakes. This is our follow up activity after learning, Why snow is white? 

Social Studies: Martin Luther King Jr.

Reminders:

• Homework is due Tuesday.
• Library books are due on Tuesday. 
• Family Envelopes were sent home today, 1/11.
• Friday: 12 pm Dismissal
• Monday, No School (MLK)
