First Grade Families-
We are back and ready to conquer the end of this year! Thank you for making our first days a success with the extra water, notes placed in their lunch boxes, names on their jackets, and sending your kiddos with awesome spring break experiences. They were all happy to share their fun times with family and friends.
Please be sure to charge their kindles before heading to school. 🙂
Weekly Homework
Homework due EVERY Tuesday.
Fluency: Fluency
Reading Challenge: Reading Challenge (Read 20 min. a day). I know I sent home the May reading challenge but we are still in April. I want to send the June challenge in mid-May.
Math IXL: Math worksheets (addition and subtraction). Reminder: Begin addition and subtraction from the ones place NOT the tens place. I placed an arrow on a few problems to remind them.
Sneak Peek to our Academic Week
Word Work: Please review spelling patterns during the week.
Reading: We added more vowel pairs (ee, ea, ou, ai)and learned about the controlled r (ir, er, ur). We continue working on retelling, cause and effect, learning to make better predictions by using picture cues, and learning to describe a character’s traits.
Writing/Grammar: Persuasive/Opinion Writing
We are writing our opinion about watermelons. Do we like them or not? Students must include two reasons to prove their statement on watermelons. We are also learning to add an example to our writing.
Writing sentences using punctuation marks, capital letters and spaces between words.
Math: In the last few weeks of school, I will be working on different chapters from our math curriculum. This week we will work on fact families, adding two-digit numbers, subtracting two-digit numbers, name the collection box and word problems.
Religion: We will review our final unit by playing Stump the Shepherd. This is a jeopardy-like game to review our last unit. The kids play against me!
Art: We learned the art of weaving a watermelon. The kids did such a fantastic job! The final product will be in our classroom so be sure to take a peek on May 6th.
