Dear Parents, January 23, 2017
Here’s what we are learning…
Language Arts: We are still working on our informative writing! We are asking ourselves what our readers need to know so that they can be an expert too! In phonics this week, we are focusing again on CVCe (consonant, vowel, consonant, silent e) words – this time with long /o/ and long /u/. The silent e says “Hey ‘o’! Say your name!” or “Hey ‘u’! Say your name!” Our spelling words come from Unit 22 and again there are 12!
Math: We are wrapping up unit 5! We are learning about function machines. In first grade we call them “Funky Function Machines”! A letter will go home attached to Tuesday’s math homework teaching you all about the function machine. We will be taking our test by the end of the week.
Science: We are still on our little break from Science as we start work on our school fair project.
Social Studies: We are jumping ahead to Unit 6: My World Near and Far as we begin our school fair project- Around the World!
Religion: This week we are working from our textbook – Chapter 14: Jesus Shows Gods Love.
Homework for the Week: (Don’t forget to read every night!)
- Monday: Rainbow Write
- Tuesday: Spelling p. 161 and Math Worksheet
- Wednesday: Spelling p. 162 and Math Worksheet
- Thursday: Spelling p. 164
- Friday: Read 2 times!
Reminders for the Week:
- PE Uniforms on Tuesday and Thursday
- We will not be having library this week, due to Star Testing
- Friday is the kickoff for our Catholic Schools Week. We will begin with Parents’ Day! Please join us for the 8:30am mass. Following mass, there will be a reception in Biedermann Hall. After recess, all parents will be invited into the classrooms for some fun! Parents Day will conclude at 11:40 to allow time for our first graders to pack up for a noon dismissal.
- On Sunday the 29th, SHS will be having an Open House from 12pm-2pm. If you know a family considering Sacred Heart School, please invite them to attend.
Have a wonderful week!
