Happy March!
It has come with rain and we are enjoying our observations of the beginnings of spring! This week we were busy taking a close look at what makes a great story! We read the book The Guffalo, and learned more about how adjectives and verbs can make a big difference in creating sentences with more power! This book went great with our “Book Tasting” share days. Students had fun sharing their favorite parts of the books they brought from home.
This week we begin our “Read Across America” celebration at school. Each day the 8th graders will come and do a fun activity. In class, we will be reading books from a variety of our favorite authors. A special new book is coming this week for our class: The 7th (and last) Mercy Watson book. We have loved each book from the series! We are even reading the spin-off books called: Tales From Deckawoo Drive. I love it when I can hook students into a series we all enjoy!
In math, we will continue to learn about fractions. and review subtraction with bigger numbers. Later this week we will be doing a fun math craft to tie our fractions concepts together! We are also continuing to learn about data and graphing. I sent home a note about our timeline activities we will begin this week. Please send back on the paper a list of events your child feels that are important to them. They are going to create the timelines of their lives.
In religion, we will read, The Giving Tree and discuss how Jesus gave all of himself to bring us closer to God. We will construct our own “Giving Tree” and leaves will be sent home to write down how we give of ourselves during the week! It can be being helpful, more healthy, praying, or any other activity that shows their good hearts! They can bring back the leaves daily and we will add them to our tree in class.
Have a wonderful week!
