Dear Parents,                     December 3, 2012

Our reading strategy this week is “evaluate”.  Our comprehension skill that can help us evaluate whether we enjoyed a book is “compare/contrast”.  Comparing and contrasting or finding ways in which certain things are the same or different can help us in understanding a story and ultimately in deciding if we enjoyed the story.  Our phonics focus this week is on words with ‘s’ clusters, silent letters (knit, write) and reviewing the short sound of /e/.  Our spelling words for this week are from unit 15.  We continue to work on the structure of a sentence and our grammar focus this week will be on telling sentences.

In math we are working on different ways to show data-focusing on bar graphs. Science finds us beginning our study of environments, living things and nonliving things. In social studies we will finally get a chance to take our test. Within religion we will discuss the importance of Advent and begin learning that God chose Mary and Joseph for His son. In addition, it is Saint Nicholas Day on Thursday. We will be making wooden shoes (out of paper) and leaving them out for Saint Nicholas.  Hopefully, we will find a treat!

Reminders and Announcements for the week:
