General items of interest: This Wednesday will be a free dress (red, white and blue); cost is $1, and the money will be used in support of veterans. Our annual Saints’ Parade (grades K-2) is on Friday morning after Mass; join us if you are free! Friday is a half day.
What we are working on this week:
Religion: We are learning about God’s laws for living (an introduction to the 10 Commandments)
Math: Students should complete ixL Math skills A5, B5 and C5 by next Monday. In class we continue work in Unit 3. We will be ready for a test on Unit 3 next week.
Spelling: This week we are working on Unit 11. The book pages should be done by Friday, and we will have the test on Friday.
Grammar: We continue Unit 2, focusing upon possessive nouns. We are also working on rough drafts of our stories in Writer’s Workshop: today we discussed how to write quotations, and how to add transitional words and phrases as we move from one scene of the story to another.
Vocabulary: We will begin Unit 6, with a test next week.
Reading: We started new reading groups today. We will be focusing on different strategies to help us become better readers; our focus this week is on Comprehension: Checking for Understanding as a strategy. Social Studies: Students continue to work in groups to prepare presentations about how the native peoples lived in the four different regions of California.
Science: We continue our study of how living things interact with other living things. We are making study cards to help us to learn the main concepts in this chapter.
