Happy New Year to all of you!  It was a wonderful vacation, but now it is time to get back to work!

This week the fourth graders will be completing Reading logs, due next Monday. We are also doing ixL Math: C 1, 2, and 3.  I would like that completed by next Monday as well.

In Spelling we are doing Unit 13. The book pages should be completed by Friday, and the test will be on that day as well.

We started Unit 8 in Vocabulary; the test will be next week.

In Grammar we continue our study of past tense verbs.

Today we started a new unit in Writer’s Workshop: writing opinion pieces.  Our first piece of writing, done in one class period, was an essay entitled “I Love Ice Cream”.

In Math we approach the end of Unit three, focusing upon number sentences (equations): true, false and open sentences.  I anticipate a test next week.

Our main focus in Religion class this week is the first commandment.

We continue chapter three in Social Studies, learning about the early Spanish explorers, their missions, pueblos and presidios.  I hope everyone has chosen a mission to study for the School Fair project.  Please sign the handout on the mission project if you have not done so already.

We continue our study of chapter 3 in Science.

We are ready to start reading our new books in Reading groups.  Everyone should have received an email before Christmas regarding the purchase of selected books.  Once everyone has his/her books we will begin reading the nonfiction selection.

Thanking you for your continued support,

Mrs. Dwyer
