Dear Kindergarten Families,

Friday is Parent’s Day! Please come join us. We start the day with Mass. Parents are invited to a reception in Biedermann Hall while children have recess. Then classroom visits begin. Please check website for additional details. Parents day is the beginning of the celebration of Catholic Schools Week. Open House on Sunday, followed with a week of activities to celebrate the importance of our Catholic education.

Our 100 day of school is on Thursday. All 100 day activities will be in class, no home projects this year. Hard to believe we are past the mid point of kindergarten.

Religion lessons will come from our Promise series. Focus is doing as He taught obeying and helping others. Also reading about the Jesus the Good Shepherd from our Religion text.

Words their Way finds us working on letter sounds. Spelling tests for beginning sounds will soon be a measure of assessment. Sight words, picture reading for reading workshop. Writers workshop continues to teach informational writing as we tell how to make something.

Sequence of daily events, counting by 5s and 10s as we work in the number grid. Use the number grid at home and count double digit numbers from any given point. We will work with ten frames as a review to quickly identify ten on the frame and some more to count in the teens.

Science lab this week is constructing simple buildings using our engineering skills with pretzels. We are learning about some of the presidents who lived in log cabins.

Chinese New Year starts on Saturday, we will learn about Chinese culture and calendar as part of our social studies lesson.

Homework is extended to next Friday in observance of MLK Jr Day. It is fine to turn in homework on Thursday our usual day.

Blessings ~ Mrs. Brown
