Dear Kindergarten Families,

Sunday, our annual Open House began Catholic Schools Week. This year’s theme is A+ learners! As we celebrating 30 years of excellence here at Sacred Heart School, we are reminded of our achievements and goals.
All around our school, we have thirty hand drawn posters with 30 to remind us of our excellence in faith-based learning.
Student Appreciation Day is Tuesday–free lunch courtesy of Mrs. Benner, no homework, and free dress-no $ this time!
Wednesday is the 100th day of school. We will do several activities relating to the triple digit number! Please remember to send in your child’s 100-day project. We will be waiting for the groundhog’s winter/spring prediction.
Teachers and school staff will have free dress and a luncheon on Wednesday–students back in uniform!
We will honor our Pastors and church office staff with cards of appreciation.
Friday is Parent Appreciation Day. This is a very special day for kindergarten students. It is important to them to have you come to their class. If you cannot attend, it is perfectly fine to have an adult family member or a family friend come in your place. If your schedule permits, please attend Mass with us as well.
Academics for the week:
Our religious lessons: relationship of love and trust as in the parable of Jesus, the Good Shepherd.
The sound of short /i/ as in the “it” and “ig” family words. Review of number words 0-20. Your children are doing great with their sentence building. We are using the first sight words, word families, and color and number words to build simple, yet descriptive sentences.
Continue to read nightly record on Book-it form. Book-it forms are due on Tuesday. New forms for February are coming home on Wednesday. A shortened homework packet will come home on Wednesday, due on Friday.
Math: we are about finished with Chapter 4 numbers 6-12. Chapter 5 will teach us time concepts. Math vocabulary words yesterday, hour, clock, and hour hand. Time concepts in this chapter consist of ordering events, periods “longer or shorter time” for an activity, and time to the hour. We will be learning the difference between analog and digital clocks. Please practice telling time at home, noting difference with analog and digital clocks.
Science:  concentrating on hibernation, groundhog activities, watching Lily, and her new cubs on the live web cam in Minnesota. Click on
bear for direct link. Social studies: discussing and designing our landform project. We will begin work on this next week.

Have a great week–hope to see everyone on Friday!
