Dear Kindergarten Families,

I hope everyone enjoyed the sun on Sunday! Now we look forward to the much needed rain again this week.  I was sent a certificate from ixl, your children have already answered 200 problems in language arts!

Primary Centers is on Friday – and a 12:00 dismissal.

MLK Jr holiday on Monday!

We have another January birthday, Alejandro will celebrate his special day on January 30.

A look at our academic week:

Religion – realizing that Jesus taught love by His example and through stories. Children’s Bible – Baptism of Jesus; Religion text “The Good Shepherd”

ELA –  Words their Way – beginning sounds: consonants, vowels, and ending consonants, matching pictures to words, blending and segmenting skills will be our phonics. WTW pairs up nicely with Reading Workshop using our ‘super powers’  stretching out words to isolate sounds, and we have been working on ‘persistence power’ as we read.  Writing Workshop continues with informational writing.

Math –  Probability – use vocabulary at home to reinforce our learning: certain, possible, impossible, likely, unlikely, chance and might happen.  One-to-one correspondence to provide practice with counting and concrete addition and subtraction we will end the week with a review of leveling with clay using the pan balance.

Science – our five senses and how animals survive in the cold months of winter.

Social studies – Martin Luther King Jr and his message of equality and peace.

That should take us through the week!

Blessings

Mrs. Brown
