On Wednesday we have picture retakes; remember that your child must bring the old ones back if you are requesting to have the pictures redone.  On Wednesday as well will be the Living Rosary, at 2 p.m. in the church.  Join us if you can!

Halloween is less than two weeks away, and with that in mind we are ready to start collecting money for the purchase of tattoos, which is one of our mission fundraisers for this trimester.  The tattoos cost $1 each; your child can buy several, but only two will be applied to their hands and the rest will be sent home in an envelope.

Yes, it is true, fourth graders and kindergarten students will be going on a field trip on November 12th to the Channel Islands Park Visitor Center.  I will send out further information in a later newsletter.

For homework this week, we will be completing Reading Logs using a new form, and students should complete ixL Math skills B7, 8 and 9.  Both of these assignments are due next Monday. Click here for new reading log. Reading log #2.

We have been busy over the last two weeks doing the planning for our personal narratives for Writer’s Workshop.  Most of us have a strong story idea with believable characters; on Wednesday we will start working on story arcs, and then we will be ready to write!

This week in Vocabulary we continue our study of unit 5 words.  Test will be on Friday.

We have started our study of Spelling Unit 7.  We completed the first two pages today and will continue in the book as we prepare for a test on Friday, with a practice quiz on Thursday.

In Grammar we continue our study of nouns, which is unit two.  We will have a test on this unit early next week.

In Math we move forward in unit two, looking at two different methods of subtraction: trade-first method and partial-differences method.  The work is similar to that done for addition.  We will take the test later this week, when I feel we are ready.

As reinforcement of our work with data landmarks, I will send home worksheet page 61 on Tuesday, and it will be due on Thursday.

In Religion we begin our discussion of the Ten Commandments, which is chapter 8.  We will have a short quiz on chapter 7 tomorrow.

In Social Studies we are finishing work on Chapter One.  Students have a study sheet of the vocabulary on the test, and this list will serve as a word bank to be used as students complete the test on Thursday.

In Science we are reading about interactions and adaptations of living things.

Three of our four reading groups have moved on to a new book and some students are working with a different person (either me or one of the aides).

Have a great week!

Mrs. Dwyer
