I hope that all families had a wonderful time with family and friends over the Thanksgiving weekend.

This week the fourth graders will be completing Reading logs, due next Monday, and they will be completing three ixL Math skills: A 5, 7 and 9.  These are also due on Monday.

Many personal narratives have been completed and the rest should be done this week.

Today in Spelling class we began tryouts for the School Spelling Bee competition, to be held on January 9th.  Five students will be chosen to represent the fourth grade, using a double-elimination process.  In addition, we will be studying Unit 11 words and will continue with this unit next week as well.  In Grammar we continue our study of verbs.  In Vocabulary we will begin discussing Unit 7 words.

In Math we continue working on a World Tour activity, learning about the country of Egypt and how to measure distances using map scales.

Our main focus in Religion class this week is on the season of Advent.

We have started chapter three in Social Studies, learning about the early Spanish explorers.

We will begin a new chapter in Science, which focuses upon food webs, and will be examining owl pellets in the lab.

Remember that the vocabulary words for both Science and Social Studies chapters can be found on spelling city.com.  Just go to the teacher page to access these and other lists (spelling, vocabulary, etc.)

In Reading groups, we continue discussions and activities related to our books.

Have a good week!

Mrs. Dwyer
