Dear Kindergarten Parents,

Congratulations to our five finalists in the Palmisano writing contest. I am proud of all our K students as they work hard on their printing, illustrating and writing each day. Thank you goes out to parents who helped in our class (and prep at home) for Primary Centers. We had another great turnout and enjoyed working to complete crafts in each grade.

This week we begin with an outreach program on animals of the Rain Forest. Monday afternoon has us attending the Stations of the Cross at 2:00. Please join us if your schedule permits.

**We are excited to welcome Nicholas who will start in our class on Monday.**

Religion: our lesson ‘Meals are Good’ reminds us that meals are a time of sharing love as well as sharing food. At the Last Supper Jesus gave us the everlasting gift of himself. We are to remember how this gift of Jesus helps us to forgive as well as serve others.

ELA: our reading strategy focus is responding to stories with an understanding of plot.  Phonics: Letter /l/ and /qu/ along with short vowels /a/ and /i/. Listening for beginning, vowel and ending sounds as we segment and blend simple CVC words.

EM: has us working in Section 6 – core work is with value of coins; penny, nickel and dimes. We will count coins and make exchanges. Work at home with pocket change, it helps that very hard concept of value. Continued work with the number grid, adding and subtracting using objects and this tool.

Science: continuing with water, its cycle and weather tools.

Social Studies: National and state symbols – an art project, drawing the Statue of Liberty.

Thursday a band performance at 11:00. Friday is a full day with families in the afternoon.

That should take us through the week!

God Bless your families,

Mrs. Carol Brown
