Dear Kindergarten Families,

This week we begin the third trimester of school. Amazing how time flies when you are having fun!! Your children are doing a great job.

We had fun Friday for centers and the beginning of Read Across America. Thank you Eighth Graders for that special treat honoring Dr. Seuss’ birthday!

Lent begins this week with Ash Wednesday. We will be attending Mass at 8:30 Wednesday morning – please join us if your schedule permits.

Our religion lessons will focus on “Church” a family of people who believe in God and the special building “church” where we worship God. Our Promise lesson will be on Sunday’s liturgy; growing good fruit in our lives. The fruit we grow helps us to share, be loving, thankful, and helpful.

Language arts – Readers workshop encourages us to use “bigger reading muscles”. We are looking at trying to read more and bigger words as we continue using our reading strategies. At home continue with sorting and sounding out the words. New sorts come home today. Writers workshop continues with writing for the Palmisano contest. I hope to start testing sight words this week.

Work in math continues with coins: pennies, nickels, and dimes. Don’t forget to count change at home! We will also be counting by 2s, measuring time by counting, and reviewing plane and solid shapes for geometry.

Science lessons will focus on our senses – a lab on sound – hearing the pitch as we tap on glasses filled with different levels of water. A fun video from Magic School Bus to celebrate earning 300 pennies!

Social studies include reading a map, directions with the compass rose, and using the key to find places on the map.

Reminders:

  • Friday is a full day of school
  • No school Monday, March 11 – religion inservice for teachers.

God bless your families,

Mrs. Brown
