6th Grade has just finished our chapter on Earthquakes and we put our knowledge to a challenge in the lab today. We had to use what we learned about buildings, center of gravity, and strength of structures and we designed a building out of marshmallows and toothpicks…on a bed of jello. Then we subjected the buildings to an “earthquake”…. the winning structure had base isolators in the jello, strength in the cross-braces between the sides and a lower center of gravity. Well done!
