This Wednesday begins the season of Lent, and we will be attending Ash Wednesday Mass as a student body.  Starting next week we will be attending Stations of the Cross once a week; I will let you know the day and time in my weekly newsletter.

This week we will be completing Reading logs, due next Monday. You may click here to access the form.  Weekly_Reading_Log We will also be doing 3 ixL decimal math skills: V 3, 4, and 6.

In Social Studies we are focused upon our mission reports. We will suspend our essay writing for Writer’s Workshop until after the School Fair.  We need to focus all of our attention upon our Mission Reports.  We will continue taking notes, organizing our note cards, and writing what we have learned in sentences and paragraphs.  We wrote the first paragraph of the report as a class activity last Friday! This Wednesday I will have extra aides helping me at 11 a.m. and at 12:30 p.m., and we will use that time to work on further organizing of note cards and then writing.  Please make sure your child brings all of their mission notes and resources to class every day, but especially tomorrow, when we will have the extra help.

We are completing unit 18 in Spelling, which is a review unit.  There will not be a test, but the book pages need to be finished by Friday.

We will begin our study of Unit 11 Vocabulary words; the test will be next week.

In Grammar we will be studying irregular verb forms.

In Math we are finishing our work on decimals; the unit four test will be on Friday.

Our main focus in Religion class this week will be Lent.  We will also be writing a small moment story, about a time when we reached out to a friend in need and showed them God’s love.

In Science lab today we examined mold on some of our bread samples (finally!!).  We will continue chapter 4 by discussing human activities that affect ecosystems.

In Reading groups we continue reading our literature selections.  I am encouraging the students to learn the meaning of any new vocabulary presented in these selections, either by the use of context clues or through the use of dictionaries.

Thanking you for your continued support,

Mrs. Dwyer
