It was great to see many of you at the School Fair. The students did a great job on their Flat Person presentation boards. They will be going home today with their grade on the back of their board. This will count towards their Social Studies participation.
We will begin our week with READ ACROSS AMERICA activities beginning today. You probably noticed our staff dressed up today as a character of a book. As we celebrate Read Across America, we will be giving tickets for any books read beyond their required homework throughout the month of March. Children will be entered into a drawing.
Homework: We will get started back into our homework routine.
IXL is required for 20 minutes a week on P.12 (20 minutes) If you get done sooner than the required 20 minutes you must do P.15.
IN THE SECOND GRADE CLASSROOM…
RELIGION: As reconciliation preparation continues, The Holy Spirit helps us look in our hearts (the beginning of examination of conscience). We will take a tour of the confessionals this week with Father Bill. We will go over vocabulary this week are confession, penance. We will review chapter 12 and begin Chapter 13: We Become Better Persons. Vocabulary for chapter 13 will be absolution, contrition and praise.
LANGUAGE ARTS
WRITING: We will begin our persuasive writing. We will define persuasive writing and discuss topics.
READING: We will begin our new story, The Great Ballgame. Our focus will be on cause and effect.
Read Aloud: We will write a summary about the Boxcar Children. We will begin our read aloud, The One in the Middle is the Green Kangaroo on Thursday.
SPELLING: Unit 22, spelling pattern oo as in took and oo as in book. Remember to go onto spellingcity.com for practice before the spelling test on Thursday. 🙂
MATH: We took our Math Unit test last week. We still need some practice on algorithm and making change with money. I will continue to practice with the students in the classroom. Next week, I will send an extra worksheet for them to practice at home. We will begin Unit 5 tomorrow.
SCIENCE: We finished Forces and Motions unit and will begin Magnets.
SOCIAL STUDIES: Proud Americans and Our Country’s Government
