Hello Second Grade Families,

Clear those calendars for this Friday as it’s Parent’s Day here at SHS! Plan to meet us in the church for 8:30 mass and stick around for classroom activities after. See you then!

Bookended between Monday’s MLK observance and Friday’s special activities, this week’s academic pursuits will be a bit abbreviated. See below for what’s in store!

Math: In math, we will continue to explore 2D shapes and their attributes (more specifically, quadrangles and “square corners” ~ right angles) before beginning 3-dimentional shapes. These lessons are very much invested in math vocabulary, so I would encourage all to talk about edges, vertices and faces with your child. You have plenty of models for 3D shapes in your home, too! Cans and paper towel rolls make great prisms as do boxes and books for rectangular prisms!

This week’s IXL math homework:

T.1 Name the 2D shape

T.2 Select 2D shapes

T.3 Count sides and vertices

T.4 Compare sides and vertices

Reading:Our class book fairy will be making some deliveries this week as we begin to grow knowledge across books! In the library, we will add information across books as well as we search for information that goes together.

Word Work: As it is a short week, we will plan for our next spelling test on Monday rather than on Friday.

Science and Writer’s Workshop: We have finished our experiment, but the writing continues. This week we will learn how to revise conclusions in order to set the stage for further investigations. We will also spend some time looking into other books to support the idea that scientists learn from other sources as well as from experiments.

Religion: We begin Chapter 15: Jesus Promised the Gift of Himself. Our focus will be largely centered on the Holy Eucharist .

Have a great week!

Ms. Espinosa
