Dear Second Grade Parents,
We have only 4 days this week. We will start our Memorial Day weekend on Friday. There will also be no school on Monday, May 26th.
A Peek at our Academic Week:
Homework: READING LOG, Math worksheet (sent home with your child), Fluency
RELIGION: Family Life Unit: We are discussing how we show our love with actions in school and at home. Children are still allowed to bring something to share of their First Communion.
LANGUAGE ARTS: vowel pairs in phonics (oo; moon ew; jewel ou; coupon ue; statue). creative writing; word attack; vocabulary development; dictionary work and cursive handwriting ( w, s and review all the other letters)
SPELLING UNIT 32: short vowel with ed and ing endings. Study for test on Thursday. spellingcity.com
READING: We will be reading, “The Art Lesson” by Tomie DePaola the next two weeks. Our comprehension focus will be author’s viewpoint. Children will be able to explain that the author based the story on his own childhood experiences. We will also be reading, Eight Daughter’s and Family Garden to reinforce our phonics lesson, fluency and comprehension.
MATH: Our other focus areas will be adding and subtracting three digit numbers. We keep working really hard in this area because third grade will start with four digit numbers. We are still working on measurement and arrays (multiplication). In class, we will complete 7.5-7.9 this week. We will take our Math test on Thursday.
Social Studies: Consumers/Producers
Science: Rocks/Minerals
