Dear Third Grade Families,
This week we will continue ITBS testing . The plan is to complete the ITBS test on Monday and continue with the CogAT for the remainder of the week. As always, please remember to arrive at school on time after enjoying a healthy breakfast. Results will be shared with parents during conferences in early December. I look forward to reviewing the information they are sure to yield.
This week we’ll be studying the following:
Math: Unit 1 Lesson 13: The Length-of-Day project! This is a year-long project we will be working on in class. I look forward to gathering the data and graphing our information on the length of the day as the seasons change. Since we are in between two units and in the midst of ITBS testing, I’d like to hold off on beginning Unit 2 in favor of using this week to review key skills and concepts. We will begin Unit 2 next Monday.
Feel free to follow along with us at www.everydaymathonline.com. Your child’s username and password can be found in his/her planner.
For IXL math homework, please complete the following Third Grade skills:
A.4 Even and Odd I
A.6 Skip Counting Puzzles
B.1 Place Value Models

Reading: We will finish Julian Tells this week. Next week, we will begin our second book, Grandfather’s Journey followed by Sarah Plain and Tall. Please have your child bring in a copy of each by the end of this week so that they are prepared for the next.

English: We will continue with Unit 1 in our Grammar books, “Sentences.” We will complete Lesson 6, “Compound Sentences.” We will also review the difference between subjects and predicates.
Science: In class, we will finish Chapter 6, Lesson 3 “Thermal Energy” as well as review key concepts from the Chapter. We plan to have our first science test (Chap. 6) on Thursday.
Social Studies: We will learn about California’s population and history of ethnic diversity. Students will be able to access the Social Studies Weekly readers online by the end of the week as individual student usernames and passwords will be found labeled in their planners. Reading the Social Studies Weekly online is an excellent way to preview or review key content during those 20 min. of reading in the evenings.
Religion: We will begin Chapter 24 “God’s Family Celebrates the Eucharist” as we learn about the Mass. Click here for the Chapter 24 Study Guide.
Best,
Mrs. Espinosa
