Third grade families,

It was wonderful to see so many of you at our Almost Spring Showcase on Friday! The kiddos have been working so hard each day. We are proud of all of our work and it was so nice to show it to you all.

The highlight of our showcase was The Best Part of Me Project. In this project, we spent time thinking about ourselves and the best parts of us. We then wrote a nice piece about why we chose this part as the best feature of us. This is always such a fun project that allows us to see ourselves and one another positively.

Sneak Peek of our Academic Week

math: As we begin the 3rd trimester and wrap up our geometry unit, we will spend this week polishing up our geometry skills. We will use our angle measurer to measure angles, identify those angles, as well as identify 3-D shapes and their characteristics. Our geometry math test is scheduled for this Thursday.

reading: This week, in our class read aloud, Because of Winn Dixie, and in our differentiated reading groups, we will work on looking at situations through the eyes of the characters. Great readers dive into books and look at things from their perspective to truly understand the motivations the characters hold!

writing: This week we begin our last and final writing pieces. This last trimester we will focus on writing opinion pieces. We will spend some time becoming familiar with what an opinion piece entails.

word work: We continue on with Words Their Way! This is our differentiated spelling program where we focus on spelling patterns to help us become the best spellers we can be. Spelling words can be found on Vocabulary A-Z + in your child’s planner. It’s always great to practice these throughout the week.

grammar: All about verb tenses!

religion: This week we prepare to meet Jesus. We will discuss that Jesus returned to heavenly glory at the Ascension.

Each Wednesday leading up to Lent, at 1:50 PM, we will be attending Stations of the Cross as a school. Please join us if your schedule allows!

science: Now that we have become experts on our planets, this week we will study the other parts of space; stars, asteriods, galaxies, etc.

social studies: We work in our collaborative groups to make posters on our assigned CA Native American Indian Tribes. We will make sure to include all we learned about their lifestyles.

Have a great week!

Blessings,
Miss Poindexter
