Dear Kindergarten Parents,
I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving Day! It is now time to get back into the working mode as we finish this month of November.
The second trimester of school begins today. November went by so quickly, it is time to get ready for the Christmas season. Please do not forget to bring in a stuffed animal for Teddy Bear Day. This is next Monday, December 3. They can be brought in anytime and put under our class Christmas Tree.
- Wednesday is a free dress — donation $1.00 all monies support our mission efforts.
- Friday is a noon dismissal with Primary Centers! This is a service hour opportunity. Please contact room moms if you can help from 9:30 to 11:30
Our academics:
Religion lessons will reflect on our families and the many things we have to be thankful for. We continue to pray the Lord’s Prayer along with our daily prayers. Old Testament stories from the Children’s Bible will be a focus and we will making ornaments for our Jesse Tree.
Theme 3 begins this week in our reading series. As we are beginning to learn to read, blending and segmenting are important skills we practice daily. Notice your child using their ‘arm’ to break up each letter sound in simple words. As we listen to stories our comprehension strategy is to evaluate, we are looking at story structure: characters and setting. Our focus letter for this week is beginning sound /t/ and initial consonant T, t. Word work continues with sight words, family words, and movement words.
This week a Quick Check and Chapter Test in math. We are getting ready to work with numbers 6-12 in Chapter Four. A booklet will be coming home this week, it is for students to read their parents and to keep at home. Skills we are working on include: counting and representing numbers, ordering numbers, number patterns, and number formation strokes.
Science Unit B We will be looking at Earth’s materials and characteristics of landforms. This extensive unit includes care of earth, how to identify resources that are used everyday and an understanding of conserving our resources. Social Studies lessons will connect with people and care for the environment.
Thank you for your children!
