Dear Kindergarten Parents,

Hope everyone enjoyed their weekend. This week is going to heat up again, we will need to hydrate often! Please send plenty of water for your child.

A little more than two weeks until the Saint’s Parade! Please begin or continue with costume preparations. Remember to have your little ‘saint’ test our their costume at home do a bit of sitting, kneeling and walking.

Halloween donut day is Thursday! Don’t forget last day to pre-order is this Monday.

On Halloween we will have a free free dress, No Halloween costumes, please. We can wear Halloween related T-shirts, socks, bows etc. Also we are also asking a $1.00 for each Halloween tattoo, 8th grade will apply two tats on students Halloween morning. Your child can purchase more, an envelope will be sent home with the extra.

We are learning about prayer and many of the saints for the next few weeks. Your student will do a paper on their saint with a craft and some writing. We will be doing research in class. If you know something about your child’s saint send it in, we will enjoy learning and looking at pictures.

Language arts – review of letter and sound /b/; new letters /Ll/and /Pp/ sight word me and I; favorite names from stories. Reading Workshop has us reading non-fiction books with a partner, we are looking for pictures that “wow” us and we share back that information in group time. Writing workshop continues with narrative drawing and adding some words.

Math lessons – preparing to write numbers correctly with stroke-formation activities. Matching coins in a game of recognition, continuing with ten frames and creating a student and a class number board.

Mystery science lesson again this week – “What would happen if we did not have a skull?” An activity craft will follow. We will begin to prepare our backyard garden to plant sugar snap peas from the farm field trip.

Social studies – look at maps and a mapping activity from your children’s issue of National Geographic Magazine. Look for their magazine coming home later this week in the homework folder.
