The 2018-2019 Kindergarten class at Sacred Heart School only has 10 students.  “I think that’s crazy; that is way less than we have ever had,” says eighth grade student, Jacob.

The amount of Kindergarten students has dropped drastically since last year.  “This is the smallest class we’ve had in the history of Sacred Heart School.  Last year we had 29 incoming kindergartners which was one of the biggest classes we have ever had her.  This is the time of extremes,” says Christine Benner, the Principal at SHS.

Some people think of this as a “bad thing”, others are astonished, and some think of it in a positive manner.  “It’s good, in all honesty, I think that having 10 Kindergarten students will let them have more one-on-one time to learn, and they can all be close friends,” says Seth, an 8th grade student at Sacred Heart School.

Mrs. Benner also mentioned that she spoke with those at other local Catholic schools and they too have some tremendous drops in new Kindergarten students.  Carol Brown (Mrs. Brown), the Kindergarten teacher at Sacred Heart School, enjoys having a small class as do her students.  “I like it,” says Mrs. Brown, “we get a lot of work done, the kids are like siblings, and they all get along very well.  We’re like a little family.”
