Hello Second Grade families,

This week marks week two of our annual holiday food drive. If you haven’t done so already, please take a moment to fill up that paper bag sent home last week and drop it off in one of the red bins outside of school. All donations will go directly to hungry families in our parish.

Math: We continue to make our way through Unit 4: Addition and Subtraction by spending much of this week on estimating (rounding to the nearest ten), learning traditional two digit addition and using the “counting up” method to find differences in temperature.

For IXL homework this week, please complete the following skills:

P.16 Do you have enough money — up to $1.00

S.1 Read a thermometer

G.6 Add two digit numbers with regrouping

Writing: Our class has come a long, long way in writing. With the goal of finishing our personal narrative unit before the holiday break, we will spend this week adding to our list of strategies for bringing stories to life. In addition to making people move and talk, we will learn to tell stories in small steps by making people feel and think.

Reading: Our focus at the moment is on making connections across several non-fiction books. By the end of the week, our goal is to be able to retell topics rather than just books.

Word Work: The next spelling test is scheduled for Friday.

Science: This week we will answer the question “Why is snow white?”

Religion: The class will spend a good deal of time this week preparing for Christmas!

Have a great week!

Ms. Espinosa
