Hello Second Grade Families,

The holidays are upon us! This week we celebrate Teddy Bear Day and begin our school’s non-perishable food drive. I would encourage all to fill those bags up (send home on Tuesday) and drop them off in the red bins in front of the school. Everything collected will go to hungry families in our community.

Math: We begin Chapter 4 with the introduction of two diagrams ~ change diagrams and parts-and-total diagrams. Both will be applied to addition and subtraction throughout the unit.

For IXL homework this week, please complete the following skills:

G.10 Addition Word Problems

G.13 Balance addition equations

I.2 Add multiplies of 10 or 100

Word Work: This week’s words will be the same as last week’s. Plan for test on Friday!

Reading: We continue to work through our unit on non-fiction reading, focusing this week on the various keys we can use to unlock tricky words so we can read like experts.

Writing: This week we will learn about telling stories in itsy-bitsy steps before bringing the inside out by making characters think and feel (in addition to talking and moving).

Science: The class will learn all about roots, water and minerals as we explore the question “Do plants eat dirt?”.

Religion: We will begin chapter 10: Jesus Leads us to Peace.

Have a great week!

Ms. Espinosa
