Hello Second Grade Families,
Wednesday evening is our Back to School Night, Part II. For this evening the primary teachers will be focusing on language arts and more specifically, word work. We will give a short structural overview of our differentiated word study program and spend some time practicing with a few select sample sorts. Hope to see you there!
This week in class…
Math: This is our last week with Unit 1 followed by our first test next week. With this being a review unit, we will spend some time working with symbols for number relations ( < = > ), patterns on the number grid and reviewing place value (ones, tens, hundreds). If you would like to receive a copy of the Chapter 2 Home Links and/or a test prep review packet, please let me know. Although this is completely optional, it’s a great way to work with your child! I will send one of these at the end/beginning of each unit to all interested families.
For IXL Homework this week, please complete the following skills:
P.5 Count money up to $5.
Q.2 Match analog clocks and time
A.18 Identify Numbers as Even and Odd
Reading: Readers get stronger by reading a lot. This week we will focus on reading in longer phrases, scooping up snap words and setting goals as readers. If you you would like to help your child find “just-right book” for him/her, I’d be happy to help! Reading logs and fluency passages go home this Tuesday.
Writing: This week we will officially begin our Writer’s Workshop! For this stretch of time every day, the class will be making books. Our first unit will be on the personal narrative. If you’d like to support your child at home, I would encourage you to come up with ideas for “small moments” together.
Religion: This week we will finish our unit on God’s Gift of Self and turn our attention to God’s Gift of Life. We will focus on the special gifts we all possess and how we can share them.
Have a great week!
Ms. Espinosa
