Hello Second Grade Families,
Friday will be our first Primary Centers for the year! Parents are welcome to earn service hours by volunteering. However, keep in mind that all classroom helpers must be Virtus trained in order to participate.
This week in class…
Math: We started the week with the Unit 1 test before moving on to Unit 2: Addition and Subtraction Facts. If you are looking for ways to work with your child as we make our way into the chapter, I would highly recommend making sure he/she know all addition facts up through 20 from memory and with automaticity (1+_=10, 2+_=10, 3+_=10, … 19+_=20). For IXL homework this week, please complete the following skills:
E.10
E.15
E.17
Word Work: On Monday we received our second spelling sort. As we study over the course of the week, feel free to access your child’s words on spellingcity.com. Due to primary centers, our second spelling test is scheduled for next week.
Reading: This week we set goals for ourselves as readers. We learned that while we are reading words in longer phrases and scooping up snap words, we must still keep tabs on comprehension by periodically stopping and retelling what’s happened thus far in the story. The students will also learn how to set goals and mark our thinking with a post-it note with the goal of turning great thinking into productive conversations.
Writing: In writing, we will learn strategies for spelling tricky words when we’re crafting our personal narratives. The class will also discuss and strategize how to manage bookmaking over time.
Religion: This week we will wrap up Unit 2 with discussions centered on each student’s uniqueness before moving on to ways in which we each can be brave as we grow and change every day.
Have a great week!
Ms. Espinosa
