Hello Second Grade Families,
Happy Labor Day! I hope everyone enjoyed some sunshine and relaxation over the long weekend.
While short, this week will be a busy one. Tomorrow is picture day (say cheese!) and Friday is Grandparent’s Day (welcome!) here at school.
Math: In math, we continue to review skills and concepts thought the previous year through Unit 1. We will spend some time going back over number grids, equivalent names for numbers and counting patterns. If you would like to keep up with us and provide additional support at home, the Everyday Math Home Links are a great place to start. Click here for a link. IXL math homework will begin next week.
Reading: In reader’s workshop, we will discuss ways in which readers choose how to read. Later in the week, we will review taking a sneak peek to decide how a books wants to be read. Reading logs as well as fluency passages will be sent home on Tuesday in the homework folders. They will be due again next Tuesday.
Word Work: Our groups are set and we’re ready to get started. This week we will take a trip to the computer lab in order to (re)familiarize ourselves with the routines and expectations while in there. Labels have been placed in all planners (inside cover) with Spelling City, IXL and general computer lab log-in and password information. Next week, we will begin to send home spelling words!
Science: We will continue with our “Animal Adventures” unit with a lesson on biodiversity, species and habitats. For the lab, we will answer the question: why do frogs say ribbit?
Religion: In keeping with grandparent’s day, this week the class will begin our family life unit! For Friday, grandparents should plan to meet us in the church for 8:30 mass. After, there will be a short reception while the students stretch their legs and play a little at recess. After that, the fun begins in our classroom!
Have a great week!
Ms. Espinosa
