Hello Second Grade Families,
This week we continue to build stamina, create routines and get to know each other. As a reminder, take a moment to check your child’s planner every evening for important notes and notices.
Below you will find a general overview of our plans for the week:
Math: We continue with Unit 1: Numbers & Routines with lessons on telling time, counting money and working with patterns on a number grid. Be ready: In a couple of weeks we will begin IXL math homework. If you are looking for ways to work with your child on a regular basis, counting money (especially change) and practicing telling time on an analog clock is a great place to start.
Reading: This Tuesday we will take home our first reading log. For homework, students are expected to read a book of their choice for a minimum of 100 minutes per week and record that time in the Reading Log. Since this is over the course of several days, families can decide how they would like to best budget their time. If you’re really into a good book, keep reading past the weekly 100 minute goal! If you’re just not feeling it or are very busy one afternoon, plan for the next day. Completed reading logs will be due every TUESDAY in the Homework folder. We will spend time this week in class discussing how to fill it out too, as it is the student’s job to do this.
All the best,
Ms. Espinosa
