A SNEAK PEEK AT OUR ACADEMICS

READING:  We started a new unit focusing on books in a series. We are learning how to understand the characters and notice similarities in the characters across a series.

PHONICS: We are learning how to decode bigger and more complex words by studying words in bigger chunks by focusing on blends, digraphs, and vowel teams.

SPELLING: Spelling tests will be on Friday, April 16. Some groups will spend two weeks on their sort.

MATH: We started Unit 8 – Fractions. We are learning that fractions are equal parts of one. We are also learning the meaning of numerator and denominator.

RELIGION: In Chapter 21, we learn that we receive the Bread of Life at Holy Communion.

WRITER’S WORKSHOP: We continue writing narratives focusing on a small moment in our lives. We are learning how to include details so our audience can picture what we are writing, and we are writing more across the pages.

SOCIAL STUDIES: We will be learning how to label a simple map of North America.

SCIENCE: We will be learning why there is sand at the beach.
