ACADEMICS

Reading: We are learning how the whole book goes together. We are also learning what message the author wants to teach us.

Phonics: We continue reviewing phonological awareness. Our focus this week is blending words together and learning about the vowel teams -igh, -oa, -ow, -ou, -oo, -ew, -ue, -oy, -oi, and -aw.

Spelling: Your child’s sort can be found in their planner and Homework Folder. New sorts are given on Monday and spelling tests for those sorts are the following Monday.

Math: In Unit 2, we are learning addition and subtraction facts. This week our focus is knowing how to subtract using what we know about addition and understanding the relationship between addition and subtraction through fact families.

Writing: We continue working on our personal narratives. We are revising our narratives using intent – writing so our readers know how we want them to respond/feel to what we have written.

Social Studies: We continue our map skills as we use a simple letter-number grid system to locate features in a neighborhood and our classroom.

Science: We will be learning about different kinds of birds and what they eat in order to design bird feeders to attract specific birds.
