I hope everyone had an enjoyable Thanksgiving with family and friends. We have a lot to accomplish in the next three weeks as we prepare for Christmas.

ACADEMICS

Reading: We are learning how to reread like expert nonfiction readers and we are learning how to teach others by using the lingo in our nonfiction books.

Phonics: We continue reviewing Phonological Awareness by focusing on -r controlled vowels and identifying short and long vowels within words.

Spelling: Please check your child’s Planner and Homework Folder for their new sort. Spelling tests will be next Monday.

Math: We will be renaming numbers using base-10 blocks, reviewing time, gathering data in order to graph the information, and solving Frames-and Arrows problems having two rules.

Writing: We are working on endings to our personal narratives. We are also making edits focusing on capitalization and punctuation.

Religion: We will be learning about the season of Advent and how to prepare for the birth of Jesus. In addition, we will learn about the Advent wreath and what each candle represents.

Social Studies: We will be learning how to use a map to locate where our ancestors lived. We will also be learning when and why they moved to their current location.

Science: We will be learning if light is needed for a plant to grow.

HOMEWORK

Fluency – Please read the fluency passage and answer the questions on the back. This should be completed over the course of 4 days.

Reading Log – Please read a minimum of 20 minutes daily with the goal of having read 100 minutes for the week. Please have your child write the title(s) of the books and minutes read on the Reading Log.
