ACADEMICS

Reading: We continue to work on growing word solving muscles. We are working on setting goals to practice different strategies when we read, and we are learning how to solve tricky words part by part.

Phonics: We started a new unit focusing on tackling multisyllabic words. This week we are learning how to break words into parts between the two consonants in the middle. We are also learning that double consonants in the middle of a word indicates a short vowel sound.

Spelling: Please check your student’s planner for their sort. Spelling tests are on Mondays. Some groups may spend two weeks on their sort.

Math: We completed Unit 4 and took the Unit 4 test on Tuesday. We begin Unit 5: 2-D and 3-D Shapes.

Writing: Nonfiction Writing – we are learning to write about things of which we have expertise. We are learning how to help our readers picture information by using descriptive words. We are also learning how to hook our readers by asking a question or using “pop-out” words.

Religion: We will be completing the VIRTUS lessons.

Social Studies: We continue learning about things from long ago and today.

Science: We will be learning how water and rivers flow.
