We had a great turnout for the SHS Showcase! It was so nice to see everyone and display the fantastic timelines!

ACADEMICS

Reading: We continue working on the skills of reading to the mood of the text, read at a pace suitable for comprehension, and recognize literary language.

Phonics: We are learning how to build words by using words we already know. We are also learning that after trying all the word building strategies it is okay to check the correct spelling of our words by checking our reading books, looking in the dictionary, or asking a friend.

Spelling: Please check your student’s planner for their sort. Spelling tests will be on Monday. Some students may spend two weeks on a sort.

Math: We have started working on a new unit: Unit 6 – Whole Number Operations and Number Stories. We are learning how to add three or more addends and how to compare number stories using comparison diagrams. Please continue to work with your child as they learn addition and subtraction facts up to 20.

Writing: We are starting our new unit writing our opinions about books we have read.

Religion: We continue to learn about the different parts of Mass as we prepare for First Holy Communion. We are learning how to listen and respond to the readings and the Gospel.

Social Studies: We continue learning how and why the United States makes laws. We are completing a graphic organizer that explains the process.
