Dear Kindergarten Families,

Here we go another fun week of school! Very proud to say your children are doing a wonderful job each day.

This week we have our first in class art lesson with Miss Nancy Spooner on Tuesday!

Please bring in $$$ on Wednesday. It is a non-uniform (free dress) day. Please check handbook for dress code on these days. We are asking for $1.00 or more, please donate what you can. All proceeds go to Adopt-A-Family, a mission we support through the Archdiocese of Los Angeles.

Friday we attend 8:30 Mass, parents and family members are always welcome to join us!

Friday is a full day of school with a “School Families” activity in the afternoon.

Academics for the week:

Religion continues with listening and discussing what we do in Mass. This will give your children a better idea of what is said in church and why we go to Mass. Reading from Children’s Bible and work from our religion text. Our text lesson, God’s World is Good – we will review Creation and discuss the beauty of our world.

ELA – letter focus this week is /Ff/ and short vowel /a/. A review /Mm/, /Ss/, /Tt/. With exception of /m/ we  are working on the ‘unvoiced’ sounds; then loop back to rest of alphabet.  Alphabet recognition as well as the sounds are the focus for this trimester. Letter/sound recognition is an important beginning reading skill; you may want to practice at home when reading together. Printing practice continues along with sight word work. Reading Workshop finds us reading to sound like a teacher – this skill helps students make the reading sound right! We will focus on non-fiction “Learn about the World Books”. Writer’s Workshop has us creating teaching books and learning to revise our writing.

EM- math for this week – counting by 1s, 5s, and 10s; using a tens frame to explore numbers and relationships, and a continued review on counting coins.

This week our science lesson changes from animal needs to plant needs. We will have a lab with 2nd grade and all will plant vegetable and sunflower seeds. This will be an ongoing project.

Social studies – a look at rules in our home, school and community.

Enjoy your week!

Mrs. Brown
