Dear Kindergarten Parents,
I would like to invite all parents to our Parent Meeting on Wednesday night from 6:30 to 7:30. I hope you can attend, topics include: CA standards, the transition to Common Core standards and how we assess students in our class and grade levels.
Wednesday is a free dress day-please send in $1.00 if your child would like to participate. I have noticed that on occasion we need a review of the dress code. All uniforms must be from Dennis or Proforma. Polo shirts need to be embroidered with the school logo. Nail polish and jewelry are not a part of our dress code, shoe laces must match shoe color, no pastels please. Please note our uniform dress code can be found by clicking this link:

Our academics this week:
Religion lessons include stories from the Bible, with comparisons of people long ago and how they loved God as we do today. Our Family Life series is another component of our lessons. We start with Chapter 1 “God Loves Me and My Family”.
We are beginning to read picture and sight word books! This is how we begin in our reading groups and will work into word families as we learn all the sounds of the alphabet and begin to blend. Print practice is an ongoing skill, when doing homework, please have your child practice writing their name on all papers. Using correct case when writing our name as well with simple sentences. Your children are learning that every word needs a vowel. It is the ‘glue’ to hold a word together.
Graphing is the focus this week. We will learn how to use graphing as a tool for noting and recording information. We are graphing by color, size, and shape. Number songs to learn correct formation is a part of our group learning. Counting daily by 1’s, 2’s, 5’s to 30 and 10’s to 100 and back down to 0. Counting can be practiced at home to reinforce this skill.
This week we begin our fall garden! Your children will be observing and recording how plants grow. More milkweed plants are always welcome! This will keep our garden flowering and attracting monarchs. If you would like to help us with purchasing a milkweed plant (from Green Thumb Nursery) we would graciously accept it. A service hour can be earned with the purchase of a milkweed plant and a pair of children’s gloves to garden with.
One more thing: This Friday is Primary Centers – I have four parents who have signed up – that will work. Room moms are still looking for a few parent’s to respond to the class roster and party fund. If you do not want to be included in the class roster, you must let us know to finalize this important document!
Have a nice week!
Mrs. Carol Brown
