Dear Kindergarten Families,

I hope everyone enjoyed the Labor Day weekend with family and friends.

This week is an exciting one – we will be getting ready for Grandparents and Special Friends Day on Friday. It is important for Kindergarten children to have grandparents or someone special represent them on this day. If their schedule permits, have g-parents or friends meet at the church at 8:25. We sit on the right side of church in the first 4-7 pews. We will attend Mass together,  a reception for adults follows – students have recess before classroom visits. Time for classroom visits is approximately 10:15-10:30 lasting until 11:40.

Our academics for the week:

Religion – we begin our month unit on Mass and recognize Mary’s birthday on September 8 with an activity on Grandparent’s Day.

ELA- letters/sounds identification; our letters for this week are /f/ and a look at short vowel /a/; sight words, print practice. Reading workshop finds us rereading to rethink – we will add a post-it to a page, which will add a little bit of us – something we relate to. We call it adding a “pinch of me”.  Writing workshop leads us to writing more – trying to stretch out a few words and making our best drawings to tell a story. We will add pages to our writing making scrolls.

EM – patterns – using sound and motion, patterns with color and noting that patterns can extend. If we have time, comparing and sorting coins will be our end of week lesson. We will use pennies, nickels and dimes.

Social studies –  occupations continue!

Science – animal needs and how many animals preparing for fall and winter.

Please note: my service hour calendar will be emailed – in September will we only have library reader for on campus time service hour opportunity. Next month look for Primary Centers.

God Bless your families,

Mrs. Brown
