Everyone did very well memorizing their poems, and we enjoyed listening to all of them!  Tomorrow our five speech contest finalists (Sergio, Grace, Roman, Mariah and Emma) will be reciting their  poems in front of the judges, competing against the fifth graders! This Wednesday is the Intermediate Grades Musical program at 6:30 p.m. I hope to see everyone there. Wednesday is also a Free Dress day ($1 donation). This Thursday we will have a special science presentation by The Discovery Center; the cost is $8 per student. Please see the announcement in your child’s homework folder. The eighth graders have organized a Cinco de Mayo cookie sale as a fundraiser for our mission outreach. Orders will be taken starting tomorrow and through May 1st. The cost is $1 per cookie. Friday is a full day.

THE WEEK AHEAD:

HOMEWORK: Students will be doing the following ixL skills this week: Math O 9 and Z 2, and Language F 13. We will be doing Fluency #30, and students should be reading for 20-30 minutes per night. The reading log, ixL skills and fluency homework will be due next Monday. NO MATH BOXES THIS WEEK!

Science: We are wrapping up work on chapter 7, which focuses on weathering and erosion. We have a special presentation on Thursday, so we will have our chapter test next week.

Social Studies: We will continue learning about the westward movement and the adventurous men and women who moved into California in the mid 1800’s, and then on to the Gold Rush!
