The 8th grade at Sacred Heart School has come up with a way to help younger students recycle and take care of the planet. Recycling has become important to the 8th grade class. They have been trying to incorporate recycling into their school activities. Two students each day are picked to wear striped referee shirts and stand by the trash cans near the lunch tables. The students help them by telling the other students what items are trash or recyclable. They are known as trash referees.

Trash referees are there to help students learn how to keep the planet clean and be responsible for their trash. An 8th grade student said, “I think it’s a great way to help kids learn to recycle and keep our planet clean.” From what the students have said about the trash referees this is a great idea and this is doing well with teaching students.
