Dear Third Grade Families,
As our class continues to march our way through the third grade math standards, I am pleased that many students are excelling. In fact, about seven students have moved past our current math focus and are even beginning to tackle new areas of the curriculum in their Accelerated Math work. Those students who are excelling are now meeting Monday and Wednesday mornings for a half hour with our school’s Accelerated Math specialist. As a group these students will continue to be challenged. Likewise, this arrangement has allowed me to give more individual attention to those students who may have found third grade math particularly challenging.
This week our class will continue ITBS testing. I am pleased to report that our students are handling the challenges of such a lengthy test well. They are pacing themselves and clearly putting forth a great effort. In order to cover all the areas of the ITBS test in our allotted time, we test every morning from 8:30-9:45. This rigorous schedule has forced us to postpone reading groups for the duration of the testing period. We all look forward to resuming small reading groups on Monday, October 11th.
In more news, this will be the very last newsletter that you receive as a hard copy. In Sacred Heart’s effort to update our school in all areas of technology as it applies to your child’s education, we have created a space on our school’s website for each grade level to post. If you go to “sacredheartschoolventura.org” and click on the “Our Students” dropdown menu, you will see a section marked “3rd grade.” If you click on 3rd grade, you will see our weekly newsletter (posted every Monday) as well as an archive of past newsletters beginning with week 5. It is my hope in the coming months to also use this space to post photos of current class events and reminders as well.
Finally, a big THANK YOU to those parents who have given their time in recent weeks to help out in our classroom as well as those who have taken work home. Educating your children is a team effort and your support is greatly appreciated by us all.
