The eighth graders have organized a Cinco de Mayo cookie sale as a fundraiser for the St. Vincent de Paul Society. The cost is $1 per cookie, and tomorrow is the last day to order them. Cookies will be delivered on Friday the 4th. They have organized another fundraiser as well: on Tuesdays and Thursdays, May 8 and 10 & May 15 and 17, a bottle of Propel Water will be sold for $1 each before school starts. This Friday is a half-day, as is the following Friday, which is our Annual Jogathon! Then the following Friday the In ‘N’ Out truck will be here. So much fun!! But there is work to be done as well…read on!
THE WEEK AHEAD:
HOMEWORK: Students will be doing the following ixL skills this week: Math Z 3 and Z 4, and Language F 9. We will be doing Fluency #31, and students should be reading for 20-30 minutes per night. The reading log, ixL skills and fluency homework will be due next Monday. We are also doing Math Boxes on pages 160, 165 and 168; we will work on them in class and as homework, to be finished by this Friday.
DAILY WORK
Religion: We will be discussing our final commandment, the 8th commandment.
Math: We are wrapping up work on Unit 6 and will work on the test later in the week.
Reading Workshop: We continue reading our historical fiction “book club” selections. Students should be jotting about their books in their composition notebooks.
Writing Workshop: We continue work on our informational books.
Spelling: We are working on Unit 32; the test will be on Friday.
Vocabulary: We are on Unit 14; the test will be on Friday; students should be reviewing the synonyms and antonyms with their index cards.
Grammar: The use of negatives and prepositional phrases are the focus for this week.
Science: Chapter test for unit 7 will be on Thursday. Click here for a copy of the study sheet. study sheet chapter 7 We will finish discussing all of the terms in class tomorrow.
Social Studies: We are learning about the Mexican-American war this week, and will have a special presentation on the Gold Rush on Thursday.
