I hope that everyone enjoyed the Easter break. This week we have P.E. on Monday and Tuesday; Music classes will be on Wednesday and Thursday. On Friday we will have the Read Across America drawing; students earn a ticket for every book they have read, so I will check reading logs once again on Friday morning. I hope to give out lots of tickets for the drawing!

A couple of reminders: I will be showing the movie Holes beginning this week; since it is rated PG, I need your permission. If you have not already done so, please let me know via email if it is okay for your child to watch the movie.

Please sign and return all progress report envelopes.

THE WEEK AHEAD:

HOMEWORK: Students will be doing new ixL skills this week: Math E 12 and E 14, and Language F 5. We will be doing Fluency #28, and students should be reading for 20-30 minutes per night, keeping track of each book that they finish so that they can earn tickets for the Read Across America drawing on Friday. The reading log, ixL skills and fluency homework will be due next Monday. Next week we will begin reciting our poems; please help your child to memorize the poem they have selected. Students should complete the Math Boxes on pages 150 and 151 by Friday.

DAILY WORK

Religion: We continue our study of the commandments, starting this week with the 6th commandment.

Math: We continue working on division, focusing on word problems and what to do if there is a remainder.

Reading Workshop: We are starting a new unit on historical fiction; students will be working in partnerships, reading the same book as their partner(s). We will select books on Wednesday when we go to the library.

Writing Workshop: We continue work on our informational book; we are gathering notes on our selected topics.

Spelling: We are working on Unit 28; the test will be on Friday

Vocabulary: We are beginning work on Unit 13; the test will be next week.

Grammar: We will have a test on adjectives and adverbs on Wednesday.

Science: We continue discussing weathering and erosion.

Social Studies: We will be reading about the Westward Movement into California (issue #18). Today I sent home issues 16 and 17; much of what they contain has been discussed already, so students may keep them at home and read them on their own if they wish.

Thanking you for your continuing support,

Mrs. Mary Dwyer
