We had a fun Valentine’s Day celebration last Friday; thank you to all for your generosity! Tomorrow we will be attending Stations of the Cross at 2 p.m. Please join us if you can. If you haven’t sent in your burned matches, please do so as soon as possible.

What we are working on this week

Religion: We begin Unit Four, focusing upon loving God’s people (commandments 4-10).

Math: We are close to finishing Unit 5, which means a test next week. This week students need to complete ixL Math skills D7, 16 and 20.

Spelling: We begin our study of Unit 21 words; we will be writing sentences with the unit words, which will be due next week, and the test on the unit will be next week as well.

Grammar: We continue Unit 3, which focuses upon types of verbs.

Vocabulary: We begin our study of Unit 11 words. The test will be next week.

Reading: We finished watching the movie “Holes” last week (finally!). We are writing an essay comparing the book and the movie, and giving our opinion of which was better and why. This is to be three paragraphs: how they are alike, how they are different, and which one we like better and why. This essay is due on Friday.

The reading log will be due on Monday (click here for a copy) reading log characters setting and Fluency Homework #21 will be due next Monday as well.

Writer’s Workshop: This week we continue writing rough drafts of our mission reports.  We will send home the edited rough drafts by the end of next week.  Remember, the School Fair is on March 2nd!  Please contact me if you have any concerns about the mission project (model or scrapbook).

Social Studies: We continue Studies Weekly issue 13, which discusses changes in Alta California after Mexico gained its independence from Spain. We are composing a study sheet of the main concepts, vocabulary, and people, which will help us to prepare for a quiz on this issue next week.

Science: We continue our study of Chapter 5, learning about the three main groups of rocks and ways to identify them. Tomorrow we will enjoy a special presentation, Rock ‘N’ Roll Geology.

Thanking you for your continuing support,

Mrs. Mary Dwyer
