Dear Second Grade Families,
Catholic Schools Week is this week. There are many activities planned for this week for your student.
Monday…SLE Bingo sponsored by 8th grade
Tuesday…Student Appreciation Day, free dress and no homework
Wednesday…Staff Appreciation Day
Thursday…Pastor/Parish Appreciation Day
Friday…Parents’ Day: we will begin with Mass at 8:30. (Further
Information will be in the school newsletter)
UPCOMING FEBRUARY EVENTS FOR SECOND GRADERS!!! (And not necessarily in this order)
1. 100th day of school, Wednesday, February 2nd (Projects are due. Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday; information went home last Friday).
2. Valentine’s Day. Celebration will be Monday, February 14th. (Valentines are to be brought in on this day).
3. We will begin cursive handwriting. (Please do not go ahead of the classroom instruction. This is how bad habits are formed and incorrect letter formation can happen).
4. Preparing for First Reconciliation, and learning the Act of Contrition.
5. Presidents’ Day and Lincoln and Washington stories and activities; Chinese New Year.
6. Friday, February 18th, is an in-service day for teachers. No school for you.
7. Begin “The Adventures of a Flat Person”…details to follow. (Letters will go out this week asking for the return of our flat second graders).
8. Life Skills…telling time on an analog clock and digital clock and counting money. You can continue helping your child by daily practice of these skills.
9. Adding 2-digit numbers with/without regrouping. Continue with math fact practice, also.
10. Tuesday, March 1st, Book-it and February monthly Homework Calendar are due.
A class list for Valentine’s Day cards will be going home in the Tuesday folder. Second Graders are to do their own card signing and addressing of envelopes. Cards will be given to all of the students, not just a few selected special friends.
Candy grams can be purchased this week. They are 50 cents each. Friday is the last day. These special Valentines will be going to those who are serving in the military.
BOOK ORDERS for February will go home soon. Please be attentive to the due date.
AND FOR THIS WEEK….
RELIGION: Reconciliation preparation continues. We are continuing learning how to be courteous, kind, respectful, honest, and truthful as we follow the example of Jesus.
LANGUAGE Arts: reading for fluency and comprehension; Spelling words that end in ‘s’ or ‘es’; ABC Order; Dictionary Work; Word families; creative writing; story sharing; sentence writing; Valentine and February language art activities; cursive writing.
MATH: Adding and subtracting facts to 20, practice, practice, practice; begin 2 digit addition with and without regrouping; Valentine and February math.
SCIENCE/SOCIAL STUDIES: Communities; Life in different places.
