Tomorrow is our field trip to Olivas Adobe; if possible, send your child to school with an old towel (not bath size) for cleaning up after making adobe bricks. Report cards go home tomorrow. We will have a free dress this Wednesday, with donations going to support the St. Vincent de Paul Society here at Sacred Heart Church. We encourage all students to be as generous as possible (minimum donation is $1). We have another free dress day on Friday, a full day (St. Patrick’s Day), so students should wear something green.  I would ask that each student bring a box of 300-350 kitchen matches, already burned, for a Lenten Cross art activity.  You can purchase them at most grocery stores.

THE WEEK AHEAD:

Religion: We will be studying the fifth commandment this week. Wednesday is Stations of the Cross at 2 p.m.

Math: We continue working on dividing numbers by one and two-digit divisors, using the partial quotient method. Students are to do ixL skills E 4, 5 and 6 this week. This will be due next Monday.

Reading Workshop: Read Across America continues again this week; we are focused on reading as much as possible at home, logging it and getting parent signatures so we can earn tickets for the raffle to be held at the end of the month.   We have switched our nonfiction focus to narrative nonfiction, so we are now reading biographies. Please make sure you sign the log for minutes read at home. Click here for the reading log, which will be due next Monday. new reading log

Writer’s Workshop: We are revising and writing the final drafts of our essays.

Reading Fluency: It is fluency #27 this week; it will be due next Monday.

Spelling: We are learning the words in Unit 25; the test will be on Friday.

Vocabulary: We begin our study of Unit 14 words; the test will be next Friday.

Grammar: Our new unit focuses on adjectives.

Social Studies: We move on to Studies Weekly # 15, “Rancho Life”, which fits in nicely with our trip to the Olivas Adobe, site of a very large rancho of the 1800s.

Thanking you for your continuing support,

Mrs. Mary Dwyer
