We were blessed to have so many grandparents and other family members with us last Friday for Grandparents’ Day. We shared what we have learned about geometry and then read about the presidential candidates in our Scholastic News magazine.

I encourage students to access spelling city.com to practice spelling words.  Each student has a new login and password glued inside their planners.  They can also access our Scholastic News magazine through scholastic.com/sn4.  All of the articles are on there, with an audio feature, as well as videos and games.  We have written that password  in our planners as well.

THE WEEK AHEAD:

Religion: We continue with chapter 2, learning about Scripture.

Math: We finish our study of geometry this week. We will have the unit test on Wednesday. Students need to complete ixL Math skills W7, X 2 and X 4 by next Monday.

Reading Workshop: We are reading every day, both at home and in school, learning a variety of strategies to help us become better readers, with a particular focus on the characters in stories. Click here for a copy of the reading log. reading-log

Reading Fluency: Students should complete fluency homework #4. This will be due next Monday.

Writer’s Workshop: We have selected our story idea for our first writing project; we are focused this week on developing believable characters with struggles and motivations.

Spelling: We continue our work in Unit 3. Students have begun writing sentences with each word; these will be due on Friday, and the test will be on Friday as well.

Vocabulary: We continue our study of Unit 2 words; the test will be on Friday.

Grammar: We continue our study of sentences, focusing on simple subjects and simple predicates.

Social Studies: Today we took the online test for issue #1 of Studies Weekly, just to see what the tests are like. This week we will be working in issue #2, focusing on map skills. Students are very excited about the online component!

Science: We continue to observe our terrarium ecosystems and will be discussing characteristics of various land ecosystems.

Thanking you for your support,
