Hello Second Grade Families!
I am looking forward to meeting with all at conferences this week. It’s amazing how much the students have grown in just one trimester! As a side note, if you need to change your conference date and/or time, please remember to notify Mrs. Hahn in the Office as soon as possible as she maintains the master schedule.
This week…
Math: This week marks the beginning of Unit 5: 3-D & 2-D Shapes! We will begin the unit with a review of line segments (naming), points (naming), parallel and “not parallel” lines as well as quadrilaterals and quadrangles.
For IXL math homework this week, please complete the following skills:
G.6: Add 2 two-digit numbers with regrouping
G.5: Add 2 two-digit numbers without regrouping
M.6: Place value up to the hundreds
M.4 Convert from expanded form up to the thousands
Reading: In reading, we will turn our attention to decoding difficult terms that are subject specific. For example, our class mentor text is on Tigers and we came across the word “territory”. We will discuss ways to unlock key words and then rereading like experts after so that we become experts ourselves.
Writing & Science: We will continue with our unit on Force and Motion starting the week off with an experiment on friction. The students will write their first lab report before revising the procedures section later in the week. We will end the week when we come up with our own designs to improve upon our first experiment, and then write our next lab report.
Word Work: Last week was a short one, so we didn’t have a spelling test. This week, we have the same words and will be tested on Friday.
Religion: We will continue with Chapter 12: We Meet Jesus in the Sacrament of Reconciliation. The class will learn such vocabulary words as: priest, penance, pardon, sin, confession and reconcile.
Have a great week!
Ms. Espinosa
