Dear Third Grade Families,
I am pleased to report that as of last Thursday, we are all done with ITBS and CogAT testing for the 2012-2013 academic year. The next time your child completes these assessments he/she will be a fourth grader! All of our students deserve a big pat on the back for their effort and endurance. At this point, Mrs. Benner will mail off all the answer sheets and we will wait for the results to arrive. You can expect to see these at parent conferences in December, when we will review your child’s individual scores together.
On Tuesday, you will receive your child’s Trimester 1 Progress Report. Keep in mind that this is not a report card. It is simply a peek at where your child stands at the half way point in the trimester.
Thursday is library day. Please remind your child to bring any books that have been checking out in order to renew them or check out new ones.
With testing complete, we will return to our regular academic schedule.
Language Arts: Review of spelling and vocabulary units 1-5, continue review of nouns focusing on regular and irregular plural nouns, no vocabulary
Math: Subtraction. Please review subtraction with regrouping and regrouping across zeroes with your child. This is where students often have the most difficulty in this chapter.
Science: We will have our very first science test on Wednesday covering Chapter 6. Some concepts and vocabulary included will be: physical change, physical property, evaporation, condensation, melting, freezing, solids, liquids and gas.
Social Studies: I’m thrilled that this week we will begin with California Studies Weekly!
Religion: Chapter 3 quiz on Thursday with a focus on the lives of St. Clare and St. Francis.
Finally, beginning with week, our weekly Reading Log and Spelling Words have gone online! Click below to download these!
Have a great week!
