Hello Third Grade Families!
As always, we are working hard in the third grade. This Wednesday we have another free dress day. Bring $1 (or more!) if you would like to participate. All will go directly to the Adopt-a-Family Program. Then, on Friday, we will enjoy our second “Intermediate Centers.”
In class this week, we’ll be studying the following:
Math: This week we will continue Unit 3: Linear Measures and Area. We will spend time reviewing basic units of measure both in customary and metric units, as we will also be measuring to the nearest quarter unit. Then, we will learn all about measuring the perimeter of plane figures. As always, feel free to follow along with us at www.everydaymathonline.com. Your child’s username and password can be found in his/her planner.

Vocabulary: We will begin Unit 5. For a list of the words, definitions and additional practice go to the vocabulary workshop site. Instructions, along with a username and password, can be found taped on the inside cover of your child’s planner.
Reading: Library day is Thursday! Please remind your child to bring any books that are checked out so that they may be renewed or check back in.
We are finishing our books from the Miami Jackson series and now tuning in to some Halloween themed chapter books.

English: We will begin Unit 2 in our grammar books this week with lessons 1 and 2. Log on to the Grammar Workshop website for additional practice and skills reinforcement. Directions can be found in your child’s planner.
Science: In class this week, we will continue Chapter 7, “Chemical Changes.” We also welcome a very special guest: Mr. Rzasa, our resident chemistry coach! He will be leading the class in a fun Halloween themed science lab on Tuesday.
Social Studies: We will learn all about human-made features of the land including buildings and roads.
Religion: The class will continue Chapter 6, “We Believe in God.” The next quiz will take place on Monday, October 20th. Click here for the chapter study guide.
